California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom to NRA: “We ARE coming for your guns.”

Here is an excerpt taken from an article posted in the RedState www.redstate.com by Brandon Morse. It reads in part…

California’s Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom decided to commemorate the tragic Sandy Hook shooting in 2012 by telling the NRA that if they hurt anybody else, they’re coming for their guns.

Not would be criminals…but the NRA.

“It’s been 5 years since 20 first graders were shot dead at Sandy Hook,” wrote Newsom on a Facebook post. Newsome then listed off the mass shootings that have occurred since that time.

 Since then:

– 14 killed in San Bernardino

– 49 killed in Orlando

– 58 killed in Vegas

– 26 killed in a Texas church

Enough.

“We have a message for the NRA – National Rifle Association of America: If you hurt people, we ARE coming for your guns,” wrote Newsome. The link to the full article is https://www.redstate.com/brandon_morse/2017/12/15/california-lt.-gov-blames-nra-mass-shootings-says-hurt-people-coming-guns/

Here is my take on this article and Mr. Newsom’s position on guns. The tragedy’s that Mr. Newsom refers to are sobering. These are innocent people who lost their lives to individuals that should never have been in possession of a gun in the first place. Unfortunately, no law will ever stop this kind of madness. Passing more laws that prevent law-abiding citizens from having guns will not prevent these types of occurrences from happening again either. People intent on doing others harm will find a way. The Bible points out that Cain killed his brother Abel using a stone.

As a nation, we should mourn the loss to the families of these killed that Mr. Newsom points out. However, on the other hand, what I don’t understand is why Mr. Newsom excludes the 915 innocent people killed in 2015 and 1,059 in 2016 on California highways and roads by drunk drivers? Are these 915 and 1,059 innocent people less important than those killed in San Bernardino, Orlando, Vegas, or in a Texas Church that Mr. Newsom points too? I wish to think not. However, drunk drivers are not the issue here, total gun confiscation is. Therefore, Mr. Newsom feels the need to continue with his anti-gun rhetoric that play on people’s emotions minus the facts.

When our government eventually confiscates all firearms, then we as a people, will become subject to a tyrannical government. That’s the thrust behind the gun laws that keep chipping away at our Second Amendment rights. Gun control has nothing to do with the number of people killed, it has everything to do with power over the people. As long as the citizenry is armed that power ceases to exist.

Here is a chart showing that California has the highest fatality rate for drunk driver deaths in 2015 which should be as disturbing to Mr. Newsom as are the other deaths. What new laws are on the horizon for drinking and driving?
